Yun-Young Maeng has earned a 1st degree black belt from Korea in 1996 but became a member of OMAC since Battle of Columbus 2000. Mr. Maeng came to the U.S. in 1998 in order to attend college and is currently majoring in MIS at Ohio State University.  Ever since he came to US with knee surgeries, he is recovering with KIMOODO healing exercise by Grand Master Choi. Mr. Maeng has experiences of instructing at the JIS Taekwondo Club in Jakarta, Indonesia. In addition to that, in 1996 Mr. Maeng's demonstration team was invited to provide a demonstration at Olympic Stadium for a special event.

General Information

The Ohio State Taekwondo Club
was founded by Grand Master Joon P. Choi- (9th Degree black belt and U.S. Olympic Coach -1988) in 1971. New and advanced students are always welcome. Please stop by Room 119 Larkins to watch or wear sweats/shorts and take advantage of a free trial class.

How much are classes?

Membership dues are $40.00 a quarter.

Am I able to test for belts as a member of the OSU Taekwondo Club?

Yes, generally club members who attend class regularly throughout the quarter are able to test for rank every quarter. These rank tests are conducted by Grand Master Joon P. Choi and are held at the OMAC world headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

Will I be able to obtain a black belt in the time I am here at Ohio State?

Yes, on average, a student who regularly attends class without breaks can attain their black belt in 3 to 4 years.

What do you focus on in class? Sparring? Self Defense? Forms?

The instructors teach a balanced blend of Sparring, Self-Defense, and Forms allowing the student to become proficient in all aspects of martial arts.
